Women Who Are Incarcerated Face A Double Standard

Women who are incarcerated face a double standard. Society are quick to assume that a woman who has committed a crime has no remorse than a men when they have committed the same crime. They also can face a harsher punishment than men s. In the book couldn t keep it to myself, women speak about their crimes, and the reasoning of why they committed the crime. In my opinion I believe these women can be forgiven depending on how serious their crime is, thus, i also believe they are going to learn from their mistakes and turn it into something productive. One of the aspects that can lead a women to commit a crime is their upbringing. Living in an inadequate neighborhood, surrounded by crime, gangs, and drugs are factors that can lead a women into crime. In the case of Tabatha Rowley her upbringing and past life, pushed her into committing assault in the first degree. In my opinion, I believe she assaulted her victim because it was a defense mechanism. tabatha was forced into this crime because she has had a previous history of domestic violence from other men and it is all she experienced all her life. She believed that if she did not react now he was going to kill her instead. while tabatha completed her sentence, she learned how to love herself again. with a special treatment after jail, i believe she can be reintegrated into society and be productive. Irony in Love Free Essays

Irony in Love Irony is a mystery. The smartest minds of society even contradict themselves; nothing goes as planned. No matter how much people are molded by others, they are always their own individual with their own free will. We will write a custom essay sample on Irony in Love or any similar topic only for you Order Now Love is also a mystery; it is an emotion, but also a psychological necessity. Having immense book smarts and everything planned out does not set the standards for the ideal guy. Conceded, self-centered people have no realization that the world does not revolve around them and their opinion. In many cases, the guy â€Å"on top† does not always get what he wants but what he deserves. In Max Sultan’s, Love Is a Fallacy, the story has almost no association with the emotion love; it follows the material, selfish, earthly values of humans. Salmon portrays how irony can be seen through a man teaching a woman how to be logic, but then the woman turns away. Logically choosing another mate. A young law student pursues Poly Espy; a beautiful, graceful classmate who is not the brilliant compared to him. He aims to teach her logic, making them the â€Å"perfect† pair. In his arrogance he neglects to see that Poly is her own person and does not have to choose him, no matter his educational status. After all the knowledge given to her, she makes the decision to â€Å"go steady’ with his roommate, Petty Bellows, realizing their relationship is not a logical choice for her life. As John Gay has said â€Å"follow love and it will flee, flee love and it will follow. † Poly sees right through the main character, all his â€Å"hard work† back fired. In the end of the story she has no interest in him. With all his intelligence, he has no emotions. Everything enters around him. During the story, Poly and the future lawyer meet for their â€Å"dates† at the Knoll. Known for being regularly visited by young couples as a hook up spot. Though this young couple ironically goes to talk about logic. The young law student could have taken her any. Veer at all, but chose to take her to a romantic spot for a non-romantic conversation. His unconscious, emotionless choice provides the audience and Poly even more information to come to the conclusion that he isn’t emotionally interested; even though he stated it early in the story. For him this is strictly an experiment to see if Poly is â€Å"worthy’ of him. He would rather spend the time â€Å"correcting† Polyps mind because she is â€Å"logic-proof,† than trying to get to know her for who she really is. In doing this he debilitates the chemical process the brain completes in order to feel the emotion of lust and attraction. Everyone and everything has to measure up to him or it is not good enough. Though, in the end the law student doesn’t measure up to his roommate that is â€Å"dumb as an ox. † At the end of the story, Poly chooses Petty over the pompous law student imply because of the raccoon coat. Ironically the reason petty has the coat is because of the fact that his roommate gave him it for the girl. Poly hilariously proves to the young man that no matter how well put together someone’s future or current situation in life, something as simple as a raccoon coat can leave you in the dust. From the very beginning, Poly and Petty already had chemistry. Like John Dryden once said â€Å"love is not in our choice but in our fate,† there was something established prior. The young lawyer sought out to take her, not even considering she needed to be won over. Once again not thinking about another individual’s opinion, only his need and wants to become a â€Å"successful† lawyer. Proven in Love Is a Fallacy, you can educate someone to a higher standard but the repercussions of that action may not be in your favor. This lead to the knowledge that having a giant intellect does not mean that an individual knows everything, especially about love. Many geniuses do not understand that not every aspect of life needs to be mathematically calculated to precision. People are singular because no one is exactly alike. Creationism vs. Evolution Essay Example For Students

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay In my short life on this planet I have come to question things that many take upon blind faith. We all know that we must some day die; yet we continuously deny the forces at work inside ourselves, which want to search out the answers of what may or may not come after. It is far easier for humanity to accept that they will go to a safe haven and be rewarded for their lives with pleasures and fantasies of an unfathomable scale than to question the existence of a supposed omnipotent being. Yet, there are a few of us humans who tend to question the whys and wherefores that society puts forth to us. We question the existence of God, or the creation of mankind rather than blindly accepting faith-filled beliefs we may received from our parents as children. Perhaps it is because we live in a nation filled with many peoples of different beliefs whose Gods are all so varied and different that it is difficult to fathom that they are all the same divine being. It is also plausible that we just h ave a desire to quench the thirst for knowledge that lies deep within ourselves. As for myself, I cannot believe in a being which created a universe and amultitude of worlds in a rather short period of time then deigns to lower itself into becoming a puppet-master and pulling the strings of the Earth and all of the people therein. Since this paper touches upon many scientific terms, I feel that in order for the reader to correctly grasp the content I must first define three words: Theory, Law, and Hypothesis. The definitions will allow for a greater underezding of this essay and give us an even ground upon which to begin. Theory; noun1. a. Systematically organized knowledge applicable in a relatively wide variety of circumezces, especially a system of assumptions, accepted principles, and rules of procedure devised to analyze, predict, or otherwise explain the nature or behavior of a specified set of phenomena. b. Such knowledge or such a system. 2. An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture. Law; noun1. a. A formulation describing a relationship observed to be invariable between or among phenomena for all cases in which the specified conditions are met: the law of gravity. b. A generalization based on consistent experience or results: the law of supply and demand; the law of averages. Hypothesis; noun1. A tentative explanation that accounts for a set of facts and can be tested by further investigation; a theory. 2. Something taken to be true for the purpose of argument or investigation; an assumption. It is important that you thoroughly read the above definitions or you will be at a disadvantage if you do not. You will note thatthere are several different definitions to each word. I felt it was important to include the added definitive statement to theory because it shows the difference between a scientific theory and an everyday theory based upon conjecture. The additional definitions to law and hypothesis are both added for a further underezding of these words. The definition of creationism is somewhat more complex. One must start by saying that the belief in the creation of the universegiven at the beginning of the Bible is literally true. Creationism is a belief based solely upon faith (which is a belief in and of itself). There are no scientific facts as a basis for this belief, solely conjectural theories and speculations. It is ingrained into our minds, as children that a belief of a force, or supernatural entity, which is all powerful and all knowing, is watching over us and taking care of our needs. Yet, to me, saying this very sort of thing is heretical in its very essence. To be so crude as to think that some being which created the universe itself and all things in it would take the time to care for each and every individual is incomprehensible. In practically all ancient cultures, the biblical included, the universe was thought of as an original chaos into which order had been introduced by a creative hand: This was the essence o f creation.1 In this statement alone we

As soon as Marvel’s management files a petition for relief with a bankruptcy court an automatic stay goes into effect. Marvel’s management then continues running the company and has the exclusive right to propose a reorganization plan within 120 days. This plan will be voted on by all the claimants and if at least ? f them vote in favour of the reorganisation plan, it is accepted. If the plan is not accepted within 180days, creditors can propose their own reorganization plan or choose to liquidate the company as seen in the last option mentioned above. In case of the first option being realised, public debt holders sell their bonds at then (31/1/1997) prevailing prices (Exhibit 6). In this case Marvel Holding public debt holders receive $1. 886 per collateral share, Marvel Parent Holdings debt holders receive $1. 762 per share and Marvel III Holding debt holders receive $1. 868 per collateral share. In case ? f the claimants vote for the restructuring plan proposed by Perelman, there will be 427 new shared issued (in addition to the 101. 8 shares already outstanding), for which there will be a cash investment of $365mln made into the company. $326. 8mln of these $365mln will be then paid for acquisition of Toy Biz, which leaves the company with a number of shares of 511. 8mln and cash holdings of $38. 2mln ($365mnl-$326. 8mln). The price of the old shares at the time was $2; the new share price would therefore be $1. 11 (365+2*101. 8)/511. , which is less than what debt holders would receive in case of immediate sale of their bonds. In case, the claimants vote against the Perelman’s plan, they will be offered to vote for the Icahn’s plan, in which case the new share price, depending on the rights offering price (p r), would be p=(101. 8*2+350)/(101. 8+350/ pr ), where pr should be smaller than 2. In case p is more than the price the debt holder would get from the sale of the bond, they will vote for Icahn’s plan, otherwise, they will opt for selling the bonds right away. 1- The last option, which is liquidation (Chapter 7), should go into effect when all the abovementioned options have failed. According to Bear Stearns analysis, Marvel is worth more as a going concern then in case of liquidation. Based on the liquidation scenario, Exhibit 8, private debt holders, mainly banks, recover 69 cents on the dollar face value, whereas public debt holders, who hold unsecured claims, and equity holders, who according to the absolute priority rule are junior to all other creditors, get nothing. That is why, from a perspective of a public debt holder it is more profitable to vote in favour of the reorganization plan proposed by Carl Icahn (or sell the bonds, depending on p). However, secured claimants may have an incentive to vote against because in case of liquidation they recover approximately 70% of their claims and one should keep in mind that the longer the restructuring process lasts, the less valuable the enterprise and its assets become. -2-

College Cafe Project Essay Example

College Cafe Project Essay Example The College Cafà © Project Essay Sample The College Cafà © Project Essay Sample The topic of this research paper is setting up a cafà © within a college campus. â€Å"ABC cafà ©Ã¢â‚¬ has been used in this article to represent this new venture. The reason as to why this cafà © is being set up is in order to offer students a chance to hang out after lectures instead of going outside the college. The cafà © will not only be a dining area but a place for students to meet their friends and other people too. Therefore, it will furthermore provide an opportune setting for students to socialize. It will be a very constructive move towards enhancing the development and wellbeing of students on campus because they are not focused on academics only. The College Cafà © Project in the North Atlantic Qatar The main idea of this article is to find out the viability of a cafà © at the College of the North Atlantic Qatar. It will explain purpose of conducting the research and outline the students` background. It will further elaborate on the research methods that will be employed in carrying out the study. Background of the Research Topic Due to foreign students different foods from the entire world have been introduced. This has been affected by close association between India and Iran as well as North Africa. For instance, it is illegal to eat, smoke or drink during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Muslims consider that it is wrong to eat or drink as this defiles the sanctity of the fast which is a sacred ritual for all Muslims to keep. The authorities within Qatar have issued stern messages regarding the rules to keep during Ramadan to everyone especially foreigners both Muslims and non-Muslims who happen to be residing or visiting the country. Those who are caught breaking this rule face harsh consequences such as expulsion from the country. The local citizens who violate the fast are served with corporal punishments. During Ramadan all Muslims must keep off from drinking, eating and smoking in the course of the day hours of fasting. Therefore, non-Muslims still will refrain from eating to demonstrate respect and to avoid hurting the feelings of those who are fasting. This means that the cafà © will be losing a lot of sales as non-Muslim community will resort to look for non-public places to have a meal. The ABC Cafà © will not serve its purpose of providing food in times of need. This is because the cafà © will have to comply with the state’s rule in order to avoid being prosecuted for violation of the rule. The authorities in the Gulf have instituted Commissions to increase virtues and decrease vice and to arrest the violators. It is paramount for the cafà © to provide food that will not offend Muslim customers during their fasting period (Advameg, Inc, 2013). Food in Qatar often depicts Muslim dietary preferences; however, Indian, African, Iranian and international cuisines can be also found. Due to the growing impact of global food preferences recently several restaurants have been opened in Qatar. These are often used by the foreigners as public eating in Qatar is not common. This implies that most restaurants reflect Muslim preferences and it will be very difficult for the school cafà © to be different. In this case, foreigners will resort to restaurants that serve a wide range of meals of their choice. That`s why it is going to be very difficult to integrate Muslim and non-Muslim food preferences (Brokaan, 2013). Additionally, people in Qatar eat just a bit in morning and evening and they have a large lunch. In this regard the ABC cafe is likely to be preparing its meals in respect to the Muslim culture. This will, therefore, lock out non-Muslims who by nature have light break-fasts and heavy lunch and supper. As a result, non-Muslims most likely will not eat at the school cafà ©. In addition some Muslim families are breaking off from this norm and are now taking full meal in the evening. As for Qatari men the ABC Cafe is a good place for them to meet and socialize as they carry out most of their business in coffee houses and restaurants. This requires two eating places as women do not eat in public places. This requires critical consideration of the viability of this project (Advameg, Inc, 2013). Additionally, Arabic people are fond of drinking coffee, which is made from lightly roasted beans and sweetened and spiced with cardamom. Arabic people also serve sweet coffee especially to the elite. This implies that the cafà © ought to decide on which market segment to focus whether to focus on Muslims who are fond of coffee or to strike a balance between Muslims and non-Muslims in the school. Muslims do not drink a lot of alcohol drinks, and foreigners can buy alcohol in hotels. Therefore it will be important for the cafà © to decide on the issue related to alcohol. Owing to the fact that with a mere salutation you are handed a cup of coffee in Qatar, the college cafà © will have to make a choice on whether to offer a variety of juices. In the same light Muslims do not eat pork like most foreign students. Muslims consider pork to be dirty and do not even want to go to places where pork is served. They are therefore likely to stay away from the school cafà © if it is going to sell pork. On the other hand, when the cafà © opts not to offer pork so as to respect Muslim taboo and culture, it will lose a number of potential customers who will resort to look for pork in other cafes and restaurants outside the college (Advameg, Inc, 2013). According to Arabic culture family is a vital element of life and this is required by culture and religion. The culture recognizes the need of people to come together as families thus the cafà © will be a better platform for people to interact (Brokaan, 2013). The cafà © will also have to take into consideration Islamic religious holidays. During such holidays especially those after Ramadan there is a tradition to eat special food such as meat, vegetables and grains. The cafà © will have to know how to provide the food needed for these occasion as well as still serve other food to foreigners. If the cafà © opts to serve only Muslim food then it will lose foreign customers in the college. At the same time, failure to focus on Muslim preferences will lead to the fact that Muslim customers will be lost (Marful, 2013). The region of Qatar is mostly characterized with camel meat and sea food such as mackerel, shrimps, crab and lobster among others. Thus, Qatari people are fond of these products and hence will expect the school cafà © to be considerate to this. On the contrary, numeral foreigners prefer other types of food and hence a clear balance is needed so as to satisfy both Muslims and non-Muslims in the college. With the influx of foreigners a clear balance is necessary. Therefore, in relation to dining etiquette it is important to observe a number of etiquette rules. For this reason there is a need to observe dressing and dietary restrictions of hosts or guests either Muslims or foreigners. This implies that there is a need to examine the issue of etiquette rules so as to have an understanding of what is expected. The cafà © must exercise caution as traditions are diverse in terms of dressing and dietary rules (Brokaan, 2013). The country social stratification is divided into classes and castes. It is important for ABC Cafe to bear this in mind. This is because these groups do not often integrate and some are held superior to others. This implies that they cannot easily intermingle, as well as a foreigner who also does not easily intermingle with Muslims. This means that the cafà © will have to be designed in a manner that accommodates all these classes of people in order to ensure good business for ABC Cafe. Again, most of the Arabs especially the Bedouins are very suspicious and prefer to maintain a low profile of their personal background. The Bedouins are often encountered with the challenge of lifestyle. Therefore there is a possibility of men to hang out at ABC Cafà © in bid to interact with people from other cultures especially from western cultures. According to the Arabs, eating is regarded as vital social and family ritual and people are accustomed to taste as well as share a lot of dishes whil e eating. This is going to be very difficult especially bearing in mind that Muslims and non-Muslims have different preferences and traditions when eating. Therefore, sharing of food at ABC cafà ©, as required by Arabic tradition, is not going to be possible. (Advameg, Inc, 2013) Purpose of the Research The purpose of this research paper is to outline the crucial role that the cafà © will play. The article will also illustrate how helpful it is to have places for students to socialize on campus. The findings of the study are likely to provide useful information to anyone who is willing to invest in the hotel business. The researcher also hopes that the research findings will lay grounds for future researchers to explore the research topic in depth. Meeting an Existing Need It has been found out that most students on campus prefer hanging around the college after classes. However, even if this is the case, there are only a few facilities on campus to accommodate the ever growing number of students. Consequently, the students leave the college premises because they do not have a comfortable and convenient place to hang around (Stuttgen, 2007). The new cafà © will come in handy to address the urgent need for having a social place to hang out. â€Å"ABC cafà ©Ã¢â‚¬ has been used in this article to represent the name of this new venture. The cafà © will provide a relaxing environment. Reading and studying are very tiring and exhausting to students at times. It sometimes tires the mind. This ranges from reading, memorizing, writing and calculating. It wears out a student’s mental and physical alertness (Stuttgen, 2007). The ABC cafà © will set a place where students can come and relax. The premises will be set aside purposely for those who are willing to relax and those who want to study. A lot of students in the world believe that it is better to study in cafes as they enjoy a cup of coffee with their fellow students and friends. The cafà © will be a place where students will meet, order their favorite beverages and relax. The ABC cafà © will also be a convenient place to study; it will be fitted with free Wi-Fi. Most students spend their time outside the school’s internet cafes. The ABC cafà © will provide a place where students can sit and do homework as they enjoy delicious meals and drinks. It is easier to study when someone is studying as he/she eats something. Studying in this cafà © will be motivating and fun. As for disabled students, they usually have hard time going outside the school to hang out after classes. Most of the time, they don’t have somewhere to go because of the fact that they cannot travel long distances (Migoya, 2010). Their solution will be the ABC cafà ©. There will be special staff who will be purely involved to serve these students. In terms of food and drinks, students will be served like other people but in case they need something they will be assisted. Entertainment is a need of every student. The cafà © will have entertainment facilities for students (Thompson, 2010). Most students like watching movies, football etc. In this college, students go to nearby bars and restaurants to entertain themselves. They do this as they drink beer and other alcohol drinks. The ABC cafà © will be the best place for entertainment. We will fit the facility with large screen televisions. Our customers will have an experience of the best entertainment. They will be able to watch football matches, movies and other entertainment programs as they share delicious meals and enjoy their drinks. The student fraternity will provide the immediate market for the products and services sold at the ABC cafà ©. However, it is expected that even other groups on campus such as lecturers and workers will be potential customers. The cafà © is therefore projected to grow very fast and attain profitability very soon. Sales returns are expected to increase each year owing to the ever growing number of students enrolling at the college. The cafà © will be having appealing interior and exterior designs to make customers comfortable. We believe that providing exciting, enticing and gratifying experience to the customers, they will immediately accept and like our services. Objectives of the ABC Cafà © The business projects to break even after 2 years. It projects to make net profits of over 30 percent. The ABC cafà © will open another branch on the neighboring campus by the end of second quarter of third year. The business intends to open a third branch in second quarter of fourth year. Mission of the ABC Cafà © The cafà © is committed to provide high quality, finger-licking dishes and beverages at affordable prices to the community on campus. The business will always focus on providing gratifying and satisfying services so as to encourage customer loyalty. The cafà © will provide an environment where students and other customers will interact. This will improve the social status of the school and ensure that students from different departments interact and share ideas. Our mission will also include treating our customers in a warm and welcoming manner. We will ensure that the students enjoy their time in the ABC cafà ©. By doing this, we will have the cafà © employees who will work hand in hand with the customers to ensure that their needs are satisfied. The cafà © will ensure that the employees have the highest degree of customer handling skills including courtesy, cheerfulness, tidiness, and good public relations. The employees will be focused on pleasing our esteemed customers. It will be the mission of the cafà © to provide satisfactory services that will provide students with a possibility to experience a refreshing environment. We will be committed to providing catering services at the college during annual events, conferences, and board meetings whenever they happen. We will provide students with entertainment services during the weekend to help students interact with their colleagues. The entertainment services will go in line with the ethical standards of the school and the surrounding community. The cafà © will create a lot of opportunities for students who are attending catering and hospitality courses. Upon completion, the best students will be offered a job in the cafà ©. Overview of ABC Cafà © The ABC cafà © will be offering an upscale, intimate dining experience to all customers. Whether you are coming for a quick lunch or a casual meal, the cafà © will definitely take care of all customers without any discrimination. The cafà © will offer high quality food and beverages at pocket friendly prices. The menu will comprise mainly Arab dishes; however, there is a possibility to order food of Western origin such as burgers and other types of fast food owing to the cosmopolitan nature of the neighborhood. The only thing that will not be served at any given time is pork, because it is prohibited in Qatar. Apparently, the largest population in the area is Muslims. Beverages such as different variants of coffee and tea will be served. Other types of meals found in the menu will be salads, appetizers and desserts. In addition, soft drinks will be served but not liquors. The cafà © will be located on campus to satisfy the needs of all students equally as much as possible. The ca fà © will be open every day for all types of dining services as described above. This will ensure the cafà © serves the customers who wish to have breakfast, lunch or supper. Startup Costs In most cases, the capital needed to start up a business is a challenge to many people. However, in our case, finances will be pooled from savings, and the investors will top up the remaining amount. Some of the expenses to be incurred include hiring and training of employees, acquiring the premises as well as all necessary equipment for the project. Cost of advertisement and branding will also be factored in. Caution will be taken to avoid food wastage especially during the first days of operation. Research Method This chapter will focus on various research methods that are applied in this study. In order to get noteworthy results from the research maximum attentiveness and adherences to a sound process are required that will allow the researcher attain the intended goal. The study will adopt positive philosophy and qualitative and quantitative methods. Research philosophy can be defined as the use of reason and argument when seeking for truth and knowledge. Philosophy relates to the development and nature of knowledge. Scholars with positive philosophy generally utilize the quantitative analysis to process data in order to measure certain relations. For the sake of efficiency, it requires the researcher to embrace research methods that are appropriate and it is at this point that research strategy comes in handy. Fundamentally, a research strategy refers to an organized plan of action that offers directions to researchers enabling them to conduct the research more methodically rather than cha otically. It helps the researcher remain focused, minimize frustrations, improve the quality of the work done and save time in the long run. This chapter outlines the proposed research design, population, sample, data collection instrument, procedures, and method of data analysis. Methods of Data Collection There are various methods that will be employed in collection of data as explained below: Direct observation: This strategy involves observing the subject, often in a natural setting. While an individual observer is sometimes used, it is more common to utilize a group of observers. Interviews: it is one of the most important methods of gathering information in case studies. An interview can involve structured survey-type questions, or more open-ended questions. Use of questionnaires whereby the respondents are required to fill in the questions and submit the results. Use of available literature and previous documents such as letters, newspaper articles, administrative records, to gather relevant information. Location of the Study The research will be conducted at the College of the North Atlantic Qatar. Target Population The target population consists mainly of students, lecturers and other support staff. The size of the population is around 850 people, comprising of about 700 students, 100 workers and 50 lecturers. Sampling Techniques Simple random sampling technique will be used in order to get the results. Random sampling allows the results of the survey to be generalized to the entire student population of the university. Research Instruments Questionnaires will be used as the major tool for data collection because the target population is widely distributed. The researcher will administer questionnaires with different sets of questions to each group. For students and lecturers, the researcher will use the questionnaires to gather information. The responses gathered will be recorded immediately due to validity reasons and prevention of distortion. Questionnaires The structured questions are preferred by the researcher because they are easier to analyze and the responses are more predictable. The respondents will be required to tick off the items on the list. However some questions will be open to allow some freedom but responses will be categorized into specific groups during analysis. The questionnaires will be delivered by hand and collected in person to avoid delays. live CHAT Interview Schedule A structured interview will be employed too. Fixed alternative questions are the common forms of the interview because they are easy to mark and saving time. An interview is flexible and adaptable to individual situation. Data Analysis The collected data will be analyzed and discussed qualitatively and quantitatively using statistical procedure for social science (SPSS). The study will examine the results through a series of operations. The refined data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics involving frequency, percentages and scores to determine concentrations and standard deviation. The descriptive statistics is a valuable tool for data analysis as it portrays the typical respondents and reveals the general pattern of response. The findings of the study will be presented using frequency tables, graphs and pie charts. Ethical Considerations There are a number of key issues that need to be checked to try to protect the rights of the participants of the research. The principle of voluntary participation requires people not be coerced into participating in the research. The researcher will be concerned with the ethical treatment of the obtained data and the subjects. The supervisors will also review the research proposal thoroughly to assure the ethical treatment of human subjects. The researcher will inform the potential subjects of aspects of research procedures that might influence their decision to participate. The participants will not be forced to participate in the research study. Coercive influence will not be used on the subjects make them participate. The subjects will also be permitted to withdraw from the study anytime they desired with the researcher ensuring that the subjects are protected from physical harm and psychological distress. The information provided by the respondents will be treated with complete confidentiality. The names of the respondents and their genders will remain anonymous.

Art Essay

Art Essay Definition Art Essay Definition Art essay can turn into a real obstacle on the way to college or university academic success. Art essays are in most cases based on general topics, however, they can also focus on one of the following visual art themes: collage, architecture, design, graffiti, painting, photography, sculpture, typography, drawing, film, decorative art, photography, printmaking, and others. Another way to test students on their knowledge of class material and readings is to see if they are aware of general visual art concepts including collage, conceptual art, contemporary art, derivative work, portraiture, illustration, and graphic design. Needless to say that most of the college and university students do not have enough time to burn the midnight oil reading the necessary literature on painters, sculptors, painters, and designers. Such students require professional academic writing assistance from custom writing agencies, which acknowledge the importance of contemporary education.

Marketing is a market dynamic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Marketing is a market dynamic - Essay Example Keeping an eye on the individual objectives, today the entire philosophy of business has changed. What is followed is not the selling concept but the marketing concept. Once a product is marketed properly, sales automatically happen. Hence all efforts are to market the product. Marketing requires understanding the consumer behaviour and purchasing decisions. The marketing concept seeks on focusing what the consumer wants, even if it means coming out with new products. The study of Consumer Behaviour is defined by Schiffman & Kanuk (Liesel Schwerdtfeger) as the study of how individuals make decisions to spend their available resources (time, money, effort) on consumption related items (what they buy, why they buy, when they buy, where they buy, how often they buy and use a product or service). Study of consumer behaviour has become the rule of the day. This is a very important aspect of marketing and all decisions depend upon this study. A study of consumer psychology helps firms to understand how consumers react. It gives an idea of how the consumer thinks, feels, reasons and selects between different alternatives available in the market, how the consumer is influenced by the society, culture and the media. Different products have a different level of significance for different consumers and hence the motivation for each differs. Knowledge of these helps the firm to understand the needs, wants of the consumer, and adapt marketing strategy accordingly.

Aristotle - Short Essay Essay Example for Free

Aristotle Short Essay Essay Throughout his life, Aristotle paid particularly close attention to the notion of happiness. In Aristotle’s opinion, happiness is achieved by obtaining the highest good by living a good life. However, living a good life in accordance with Aristotle’s views can be difficult. He believes that in order to live a good life, one must constantly seek to fulfill the bodily needs. To do so, one must live with moral and intellectual virtues at all times. Aristotle believed that living with moral and intellectual virtues is accomplished by developing a keen sense of rationality. He says that rational judgment is the result of living within the appropriate mean of two extremes. There are several examples he gives to illustrate this conception. One example he provides is the appropriate mean between acting bravely and acting cowardly. He proceeds to explain that if he was to act overly brave then when he was in battle he would act overzealously and cause himself harm. However, if he was to act without enough aggression then he would appear cowardly. Aristotle explains that it is reasonable to be confused with this explanation. He further explains that it is not finding the exact mean between two extremes that one must endeavor, but to assess each situation individually. He says that with each situation that arises, one must analyze it and determine to what degree of one extreme or another one must respond with. Each person, he believes, will react differently and no situation will be exactly the same. It is through one’s intelligence and practical wisdom that will allow them to live with moral and intellectual virtues. By following this conception, Aristotle believes happiness can be achieved. Although Aristotle’s conception of happiness is a sensible argument, it fails to account for a number of situations. Aristotle’s primary thesis concerns the application of the appropriate mean of two extremes. However, there are several situations which do not have an appropriate mean between two extremes. For example, there is no mean found on the issue of murder. If Aristotle’s conception was applied, would someone have to determine the mean between excessively murdering and only slightly murdering another person? In such a case as this, Aristotle argues that there are some actions which do not need any application of the mean of two extremes because some actions are always wrong. With this explanation raises the question why the concept of a mean between extremes is given if it cannot account for all situations? Furthermore, it also brings into question when to apply a mean between extremes or how to determine that a particular action is an exception because it is just simply wrong. Therefore, because Aristotle’s conception of happiness fails to account for all practicalities, it is not a good model to define happiness.

Abolishing the Death Penalty in Louisiana :: essays research papers

Capital Punishment Capital punishment should be abolished in Louisiana in order to optimize rehabilitation methods and increase spending in more important areas of the state budget. One alternative to the death penalty is rehabilitation. Prisons in Louisiana should not be viewed solely as confinement for inmates, but as a last resort for those looking to make serious life changes, even if they are condemned to life in prison. Since prisons are rapidly reaching maximum capacity, the government should really be looking to reform its current statutes to provide a rehabilitation center for criminals and provide a safer environment for all involved in the prison system. Prisons that have implemented rehabilitation programs such as The Second Chance Program have documented a 10% decrease in criminal recidivism. In turn, fewer prisoners are coming through the judicial system. Prisoners that desire to once again become contributing members of society should be urged to do so, and should be given the necessary materials in order to achieve this. Rehabilitation can also include things like job training and education. Statistics show that well educated criminals are less likely to relapse into a life of crime and are more likely to continue using their learned skills, even if they have been granted life without parole. Although some claim that â€Å"getting rid† of Louisiana’s worst criminals gives the public peace of mind, this peace of mind comes at a tremendous cost. The extra money spent on the death penalty could be spent on other means of achieving justice and making the community safer: compensation for victims, better lighting in crime areas, more police on the streets, even longer periods of incarceration for certain offenders, or projects to reduce unemployment. Quite a few jurisdictions with the death penalty have recently had to cut back on other vital services. In some states, people are being released from prison early as a cost saving measure. Other states are closing libraries and government funded offices. A second reason why the costs of the death penalty are so central is that they play a key role in how the death penalty is implemented. Supporters and opponents of the death penalty agree that the capital punishment system should not take unnecessary risks with inn ocent lives and should be applied with a strict fairness. As with many things, the death penalty really isn’t a bargain. There is no abstract dollar figure for the cost of the death penalty and it depends on the quality of the system one demands.

College: The Greatest Decision You Can Make Essay

â€Å"In the United States today, there is no more certain investment than a college education†(Carnevale and Melton). Education has always been a major component of American society. One can only go so far without an education, and the more education and knowledge someone has, the better their chances of being successful. Some people believe a high school education is enough, and it is, enough to land a job at a fast food restaurant. I speculate they feel this way because they feel school is not for them, or maybe they just do not want to go far in life. To get far in life people must go above and beyond, and learn things that others do not know to make them stand out in job interviews. College helps develop skills that are necessary for life, and gives them an education that will enhance their future; and despite its few drawbacks, college is worth it. Americans today tend to believe that college is four years of partying and fun while earning a degree, and there is validity in that belief, but one must also include the four years of learning and hard work. One benefit of college is all of the fun activities that there are to take part in. These activities that college students take part in give the students two important things in life: stress management abilities and connections. Students work hard all week and then finally get the chance to relax and do something they enjoy on the weekends. That â€Å"down time† is spent relaxing, and trying to figure out a non-stressful way to complete all homework and projects and still go out for fun. The stress management relates to time management, as students want to do work in a logical time frame that keeps life easy. These two skills relate to life after college because once someone has a job they have to manage the stress of the job and complete tasks in a timely manner. On May 16, 2011, Paul Taylor and his research team from Pew Social & Demographic Trends in Washington DC conducted surveys and asked people if college was worth â€Å"it†. In reference to jobs â€Å"55% [said] it was very useful in helping them prepare for a job or career†. The data from the study supports my assertions of what college provides students with, which is a strong foundation for joining the work force. College also gives students connections. While taking part in activities students make friends and meet people with all kinds of goals for the future. These connections make life easier after college. Students meet friends that have connections to internships, jobs, summer programs and with the help of their friends, students can find themselves in one of these if not more resume building opportunities. Meeting new people and participating in activities make students appear very diverse in turn, more appealing to employers. Another benefit of college is the education that one receives. Not only does one learn about a specific field that other people only have general to no knowledge about, but they essentially become a specialist in a few areas. College forces people to pick their main interests and focus on them. The further they take their education, the more knowledgeable they become in particular fields. Picking a major and minor (sometimes double major and double minor) narrows choices when employers are seeking workers because they want people with a specific skill set, and specific knowledge. Most degrees can give students the opportunity to obtain high paying jobs. Now, while it is true that right out of college students obtain low paying jobs, it also has to be taken into consideration what field the former student is seeking a job in, and the level of their education. For example, if a student obtains a B.A. in management he/she will likely make less money because management is a large field with many people in it. The more people a certain field or job has, the less they will get paid because in the employer’s eyes they are not special, and more people with the exact same degree and qualifications can be found. Now, rewind, and say that same student has a B.A. in biology with a concentration in microbiology. With microbiology being a smaller and more competitive field, a student has the chance to make more money. The amount of jobs available for people with that special knowledge is limited. Employers would pay more because they do not want to lose someone with those rare skills and knowledge to another company. In addition, low paying jobs are not guaranteed to new college graduates, but are still a possibility. However, Anthony Carnevale and Michelle Melton claim that â€Å"rising demand, coupled with the persistent undersupply of college-educated workers over the last 30 years, has driven up relative wages for these workers†. Carnevale and Melton assert that there is a high demand of college-educated workers and that due to the lack of workers, wages are actually increasing. Though I concede that low wages are a possibility for college graduates, I still insist that the wages are higher than what they used to be, and the students could most likely earn more money by continuing there education on through graduate school. In addition, it is believed by the NPR staff writers that most of the low wages and the lack of jobs is due to the current recession. When the benefits and costs and drawbacks of college are compared, it is obvious that the benefits outweigh the problems. According to NPR, â€Å"..every college won’t always be worth it but, he says â€Å"the long-term trends about the average value of a college degree are very strong.† And he says a college degree is still in demand.† The biggest mistake someone can make is not going to college, and that is a decision that they will always regret. Works Cited Carnevale, Anthony P, and Michelle Melton. â€Å"Major Differences: Why Undergraduate Majors Matter.† Presidency Fall 2011: 30-33. Academic Search Premier. Web. 31 Jan. 2012. The authors, Director of Georgetown University Center, Education and the Workforce and a research assistant, use information from their own school and statistics of wages of college graduates. They are credible because they add depth to the argument of what major a person decides on and how that decision effects their salary in the future. They discuss how not all degrees hold the same economic value and encourage students to not only think if college is for them, but what major is best for their future. This broadcast/â€Å'article is a credible source because it is an unbiased source. NPR (National Public Radio) broadcasts to all demographics and is unbiased in its broadcasts. The staff writers point out how most people take the worst cases of college graduates and use them to stereotype all of them, when th at is not the case. They take a logical viewpoint on the issue and show that when the recession ends things will go back to normal. This source is in agreement with the Pew source because both state that college is rather expensive and may not be for everyone.

Competencies Job Analysis

Background to the study Organizations continuously change their processes and structures due to the dynamic forces In the environment (Beer, 1980). Such forces Include; divestiture, changes in technology, working practices, employment legislation, and culture (Appear & Gondola, 1998). This transition often means change in employees' roles and relationships thus the need for systematic Job analysis procedures such as competence analysis to remove ambiguity and Improve role clarity In order to ensure consistency with the new environment.Competence analysis is that part of job analysis that is concerned with functional and behavioral analysis to determine work-based competencies and establish behavioral dimensions that affect Job performance (Armstrong and Baron, 1995). It Is a human resource tool that generates competence profiles that provide human resource baseline data which is utilized to design human resource instruments such as competence based Job descriptions that enhance role clarity in organizations. The success of competence analysis depends on the role incumbents' capacity to uncover acid knowledge and role complexities and the analyst's experience to gulled role incumbents in the process. This removes ambiguity, improves role clarity and enhances reflective learning leading to improved individual and organizational performance (Immune, boss & Buoy, 2003). Many organizations in Uganda and most Sub-Sahara Africa lack this vital human resource tool to produce generic role definitions. This has resulted Into role ambiguity consequently leading took related stress, Job dissatisfaction that reduces organizational commitment and productivity abstinently undermining the overall individual and organizational performance (Immune et a/. , 2003). 1 The importance of Involving role Incumbents In profiling competencies was neglected In the Job analysis exercise carried out In 2003 by Uganda Telecoms Limited (TTL), this culminated into role ambiguity that has persist ed to date.

3 More Rules for Producing Consistent Content

3 More Rules for Producing Consistent Content 3 More Rules for Producing Consistent Content 3 More Rules for Producing Consistent Content By Mark Nichol Here are a handful of tips that will help you produce clean, clear writing regardless of topic, intent, and audience. 1. Insert or Omit Hyphens as Needed Adjectival phrases that precede a noun, such as â€Å"free range† before chicken, generally take hyphens, though if the phrase is a standing phrase documented in dictionaries (as is â€Å"high school†), leave the hyphen out when using the phrase to modify a noun (â€Å"high school student†). Adverbial phrases such as â€Å"newly discovered† never take hyphens, but those with flat adverbs (those lacking the -ly ending), such as â€Å"well earned,† always do before (but not after) a noun. Most prefixes are attached directly to the root word (antiwar, cosponsor, deactivate, neoconservative, preapproved, reorganize, and so on), though there are exceptions (for example, when the root word is a proper name or when the first letter of the prefix is an i and the first letter of the root word is, too). When in doubt, look it up. When not in doubt, look it up anyway. A few compounds remain hyphenated. (Light-year and mind-set are two of the most common.) Learn these exceptions to the rule that compound nouns are either open or closed. 2. Minimize Jargon On a related note, when using specialized language, make sure that all content producers in your organization are in line with the definition and application of the terminology (and, again, publicize within the organization and document it) and that external consumers of your content understand it, too. But take care not to burden the reader with a heavy concentration of jargon; carefully manage a balance of authoritative language with clarity. Also, avoid using acronyms and initialisms unless readers are familiar with them or they are introduced in every document, on every web page, or in every email message- spelled out on first reference, followed by the parenthesized abbreviation. If feasible, provide a glossary of terms and abbreviations. 3. Avoid Adjective Stacks On a related note, avoid strings of adjectives that modify nouns; for example, reword â€Å"information technology risk management mitigation efforts† to â€Å"efforts to mitigate risks in managing information technology.† Find related tips in this post. Meeting Consumer Needs Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Meeting Consumer Needs - Case Study Example The use of certain ingredients that are bad for health have been used by the company such as oils with transfats. Food Safety: McDonalds has reported that it conducts 2000 safety and quality checks on its products. Also 72 safety protocols in a day. The company also claims to be working closely with independent experts on science, health, food and nutrition. But if this is the case then the McDonald's coffee case has proved the organization wrong. In 1992 a woman in New Mexico bought coffee from the drive thru and accidentally spilled it on her thighs and she had to be taken to the hospital because she suffered from third degree burns. She sued the company and it was proved that McDonalds served coffee heated up to 180-190F or 82 -88 C. This can cause third degree burns within 12 seconds and normally restaurants have to serve coffee heated up to 60 C only. Thus, the lady was compensated for the damages and won the case. Plus it was also revealed that McDonalds had received up to 700 complains of burns during that period. Nutrition: McDonald's has been accused of producing highly fattening food products that are bad for health. The company was involved in yet another popular lawsuit known as Mclibel case. There were two activists in Britain who distributed leaflets stating "What's wrong with McDonalds" The company filed a case against them and the men tried to prove their statement but lost the case in the High court. Thus, they challenged the UK libel law in a European court so the court was forced to re-write the legislation. It was proved through the case that McDonalds exploited children through advertisement and also cause suffering to animals. Then Eric Schlosser wrote a book "Fast Food Nation" and mentioned that McDonalds uses political influence to increase profits at the expense of people's health and workers social conditions. Another important event damaged the company's reputation when the Hindu's sued the company for falsely claiming that their fries are vegetarian whereas it was proved they contained beef and animal content. The most important event that created doubts about nutrition in McDonalds food was the movie by Morgan known as "Super size Me." The movie showed having McDonalds for a month and super sizing when asked for thus he gains 11.11kgs in a month. Another important event that further added fuel to fire was when McDonalds claimed to reduce transfat in 2002 but due to some problems the oil was not changed on time and a site www.bantransfat.com had testimonials from people claiming damages for eating the food since they thought transfat had been reduced. All because the company did not create awareness of the fact. A case was filed and the company had to compensate for the damages. Toy safety: McDonalds claims to make the toys in their Happy meals themselves and also that they are tested and not made out of lead-based paint. The customers expect the company to be faithful and give importance to general health of the population by maintaining quality, safety and good nutrition in food. How the organization delivers to these expectations McDonalds has been involved in a number of lawsuits that have damaged its reputation. But whenever the

Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 3

Research Paper Example In this reference, this paper looks at the Korean carbon emission and the per capita of the emission in the country. Korean per capita carbon emission steadily rose from 2002 when it stood at 2.8 to 2006 when the emission per capita reached the apex-3.56. The emission was drastically reduced in the 2007 to about 2.95 but picked steadily from 2008 where again it went to 3.25 (Kreiser 54). The carbon emission in Korea from the statistics thus shows the dynamics that are experienced in the emission of carbon with the changes taking place in the per capita emission. It should be bore in mind that the per capita calculation is considering a population of about 45 million people according to the 2011 population census. As such, this year the country has been appealing to the companies to cut on the emission of gases, in this quest the company wants a reduction of about 3% of the greenhouse gas emission that would translate into a combined 17.2 million metric tons (Kreiser 69). Out of the 3 77 companies in the country, it is suspected that without a stringent control over the emission of the gases, there will be additional emission of about 570.6 million tons of the carbon dioxide gas. The government of the Korea has issued a statement to the companies to ensure that they tremendously reduce the emission by about 8 million tons this year. In Korea some of the countries that have been given limit of carbon emission includes Posco, this company was given the largest amount of reduction expected from it, that is to ensure that there is reduced emission by 2.48 million tons (Kreiser 81). Posco is one of the still industries in Korea that contributes to the country’s gas emission abundantly. Hyundai Stell Company is the second n list of the industries indentified to be the largest producers of the carbon gas and has been given a reduction of the 487, 000 tons. The third company is an Ssangyong cement industry that has been given the target of about 443,000 tons in ef forts to reduce the emission per capita in the country (Kreiser 73). The Korean government realized the with the carbon trade issues, the country stands to loose if it can not control its industrial emission through the major industries in the country that are responsible for the release of the gases. Carbon Footprint It can be defined as the total am out of carbon that is emitted by individuals, in an even or a group of people that uses fossil fuel as their sources of energy. As we also know the some of the Carbon dioxide are produced naturally in the environment, this complicates the precise determination of the actual carbon dioxide gas that is produced by an individual or a group of people. Notwithstanding, the emission of the gases can still be estimated per individual or in a group of individuals. In this regard, I consider my contribution to the carbon emission to be about 3.1 tons as compared to our countries average that is about 3.5 tons per person. With the increased carb on footprint in the country, it is advisable that people are educated on those practices that will ensure safety use of the carbon source that will not result into the emission of the gases. Reduction Strategies There are ways through which one can consider reducing the amount of carbon footprint; I will consider a number of initiatives to reduce my carbon

Intercultural communication( this is the course I'm studying, not the Assignment - 1

Intercultural communication( this is the course I'm studying, not the topic) - Assignment Example On my arrival, I noticed I did not know anyone and all those in attendance were Chinese and I do not know even know a single Spanish word. I knew this was going to be very hard for me because of the language barrier. All eyes were on me and I felt even more uncomfortable. I knew everyone expected me to introduce myself since I looked just out place. I did not know if responding with a nod would be considered disrespectful, but it was my only option. I had seen in Chinese movies that when they greeted each other they bowed as a sign of respect, I was going to collaborate with nodding with hopes of not embarrassing myself. Finally, someone came to the door and introduced herself to me in Chinese I nodded and I bowed slightly. She bowed too, and asked me to come in, in English. I felt so relieved and I explained to her that I did not know Chinese. She laughed and told me that I was in luck that she was there since no one else in the family spoke English. She explained to me that when she introduces me to the mourners it is respectful to stand up, smile, and look at them with ease and after the introduction; I could shake hands (Kao, 9). She introduced me as her cousin’s friend and explained that I did not know Chinese or anything to do with their culture. They looked at me with smiley faces with some even giggling and this made feel very much at ease. After the service, I took time to talk to her and she told me a few things about her culture including how to use chopsticks. I regretted not taking an interest to learn the language or even to know how to say hi when my friend was still alive. I learnt a lot at that burial and it created an interest to study the Chinese language. I in return taught them a few things about our culture and our food. I realized that there is always something new and interesting in other cultures. If people would take more time to learn about each

(mturilin, 2009) Customer Perspective For the smooth running of any company or organization the customers wants, needs and wishes should be looked after. If the wants and needs of the customers are not meet than there is no use of spending so much to produce any products. Before manufacturing any product a market research should be done in order to be aware of the demand of the buyers. The team at LOreal is very particular about the wants and needs of the market. They always do a market research before any product is launched. Holocaust at Auschwitz :: essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"It is hope that compels man to hold on for one more day of life, because that day maybe the day of liberation. Ah, and not even the hope for a different, better world, but simply for life, a life of peace and rest. Never before in the history of mankind had hope been stronger than man, but never also has it done so much harm as it has in this war, in this concentration camp. We were never taught how to give up hope, and this is why today we parish in gas chambers.† – Borowski We often wonder what the reasons for the concentration camps were? We sit back in our nice warm home with our families at our side, and watch on the History Channel all of the documentaries on the holocaust, and we ask ourselves many questions one of the most important is ‘Why?’. One question I always ask myself is, ‘Could it happen again, but not just to Jews but to Americans?’. Many people shun the thought of it, but sooner or later we will hav e to face reality that it could happen, despite our brute military force, there is no telling what will happen from day to day. The one question I am going to answer is, ‘How much do you actually know about Auschwitz?’.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Most of my research was done by reading interviews that have been done with survivors. It was very awful what happened to many of the people and their families, along with the experiments that they did with the camp prisoners. Could you imagine seeing your family one minute, being told they were going to the showers, then never see them again? Then one day told to go through the laundry and finding your loved ones clothing, but, no body to go with it? That was everyday life at Auschwitz. The most medical of all the killing methods was the phenol injection, which was institutionalized during the relatively early phases of Auschwitz. Many other camps used gas, then burned the bodies, because they had no room nor time to dig graves for the thousands of people they killed everyday. Mass grave yards were not unpopular though. The definition for the word holocaust is â€Å"Great destruction resulting in the extensive loss of life, especially by fire.† And what ha ppened during the second world war was very much a holocaust.

Unit 4, Case Study 4 Skin Cancer

I have researched many different Web-cites and articles to try and determine what role genetics plays in skin cancer. Yes there are certain genetic mutations that are inherited, or passed through the germ-line, but the main cause of skin cancer is UV radiation which is an environmental genetic defect. Many cancers begin when one or more genes in a cell are mutated, creating an abnormal protein or no protein at all. The information provided by an abnormal protein is different from that of a normal protein, which can cause cells to multiply uncontrollably and become cancerous.CDKN2A- mutations in this regulator of cell division are the most common causes of inherited melanoma. They are however still very uncommon overall and can appear in non-inherited cases. People who have this often have a large number of irregularly shaped moles and are often diagnosed at a relatively young age. The MC1R gene provides instructions for making a protein called the melanocortin 1 receptor. The recepto r is primarily located on the surface of melanocytes, which are specialized cells that produce a pigment called melanin. Melanin is the substance that gives skin, hair and eyes their color.Melanocytes makes two forms of melanin, Eumelanin and Pheomelanin. The amounts of these two pigments help determine the hair color and skin usually the more Eumelanin the darker the hair and skin, also will tan easily. It also protects the skin from UV radiation in the sunlight. The more Pheomelanin the hair is red or blonde, freckles, and light skin that tans poorly, because it does not protect the skin. Which puts them at risk for skin cancer. Many changes in the MC1R gene increase the risk of developing skin cancer, including a common, serious form of skin cancer that begins in melomcytes.Skin damage caused by UV radiation from the sun is a major risk factor for developing melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. These gene mutations germ-lines are passed from parent to child through the MC1R g ene but UV radiation is the highest risk factor for getting skin cancer, and the most common in the most common in skin cancers. People who are genetically susceptible to skin cancer should avoid prolong exposure to the UV radiation from sun light, wear sun screen, and enough protective clothing when outside.
